The sole seat PTI won in Lahore is from my constituency NA-126. It’s kind of posh area. Handsdown PTI had massive support here. I dropped father to a nearby polling station (who also voted for PTI) and there was a massive crowd of young boys, girls and ladies cueing up to vote for PTI.

However it is also a reality that in relatively lower-middle class areas of Lahore, PMLN still had strong grip and their votebank was intact.

I was also determined to vote for PTI but I didn’t due to my own reasons. Bottom-line is social media worked in posh areas, and while in KP there was general wave of change. The same wave was defused in Punjab by aggressive work of development by Shehbaz Shariff.

PTI took less votes than the hype, it was created before election – However realistically, beyond the fanboism, everyone had excepted PTI would take 30-40 seats. And they did. Accept the result, play a role of positive opposition and move on.

Finally, Congratulations to PMLN, they indeed deserved the mandate in center and Punjab. and They got it. Looking forward to a better and prosperous Pakistan in the next 5 years.

Freelancing in Pakistan is on the rise. Which possibly will include the announcement of opening of Freelancer.com’s offices in Pakistan, this will pave the way for local freelancers to offer their services more effectively using the site, as well as help them with getting paid quickly.

And most probably you have used the same password as your Yahoo email account for that ‘Paid web service’ – This is how things get worse. For Instance a friend of mine had a Yahoo email account which was compromised in above noted hack attack on Yahoo servers. And he had used the same email and password for his Amazon Account. But luckily Amazon took the preemptive step and suspended my friends’ Amazon account pending the new password activation.

This is because hackers attempted to logon on to my friends’s Amazon account. Since almost every Amazon user has credit card associated with their account to make online purchases, the Amazon users could have been very easy target following Yahoo passwords leaks.

But remember, not every Paid Web service is as vigilant as Amazon nor do they have same technology to detect the ‘suspicious’ account activity in their users account. So you are advised to change the password not only for your Yahoo email but also all other web service to which that email was associated.

However what is even more embarrassing when I got to hear the News that the claim of Mr. Shayan Akhtar might just be a fraud or a publicity stunt. I was happy as the article mentions that Microsoft no longer keeps track of the participants age. Because this doesn’t really matter in any aspect. Because a 50 years old programmer could be as good as 16 years old and vice versa. Anyway, if the News of this fraud by this young bloke really turns out to true, this might lead to discouragement of the future talented students. This should not matter much anyway, because a talented person would eventually find its place sooner or later.

First Session

1. Brief introduction by Amer Sarfraz who is the founder of GBG Lahore chapter. and He is also the VP at a digital agency ‘Bramerz’, the first session was followed by some irrelevant questions, as most of the audience were ‘blaggers’ who just appear out of no where, at every single event. ;}

Come on guys, this meet up was intended for small businesses or SMEs. Google and rest of the businesses just don’t revolve around Adsense and Blogging. The questions were so annoying to me, that I had to jump into conversation to give an example of a small business that I run, and how it is benefiting from the Google services, or in other words, SEM (Search engine marketing).

Over the period of 5 years, I have learned how actually this thing (internet) works for businesses. And how can one leverage the Internet tools to boost his/her business. I won’t go into details here. But in short, learning all of them, helped my business gain an instant boost in sales leads remarkably esp., when competitors in my field are totally clueless what exactly it is. So I have little advantage of little to no competition online.

Second Session

2. The second session was presented by Badar Khushnood, who represents Google in Pakistan. I love to listen to him. Because he is very much Lahorite ;} He talks pretty much to the point and in very straight forward manner. He further elaborated on the services offered by Google to Small businesses and this session was also followed by Questions from the audience.

I do hope, regardless of the kind of business one runs here, there is pretty good potential for businesses of every size to capture the market share online. And sooner you start, better it is.

And that’s all, overall, it was a pretty interesting event where you interact with people from all walks of life, and I look forward to be part of the future events as well.
